for Textile and Garments Sector in
Agadir Agreement Member Countries

The Agadir technical unit is organizing in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry "The Specialized Regional Economic Forum for Textile and Garments Sector in Agadir Countries" in the occasion of the Egytex fair 2008 in Cairo during the period 16-18 November 2008.

The Agadir Agreement (the Arab Mediterranean Free-Trade Area) signed by Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, represents a mechanism of industrial integration between the members countries through the cumulation of origin rule provided in the agreement.

Textile and garments sector is one of the promising sectors that have significant opportunities for integration and cummulation among the member countries due to its importance at the level of the skilled workforce, production, export, availability of raw materials, historical experience and the international reputation of the four countries which boosts the competitiveness of this sector.

The Agadir agreement member countries defined the textile and garments sector as a top priority in the framework of Agadir agreement that should be studied to look for cummulation and industrial integration opportunities through a deep elaborated study.

Agadir agreement technical unit conducted a comprehensive study about this sector in the member countries where the possibilities, opportunities and work plans were defined.

Why textile and garments sector in Agadir Agreement member Countries?

The four countries have significant advantages in the international competition in textile and garments sector and an important sector for exports.

Total exports of textile and garments for Agadir countries (10.3 billion dollars) in 2007.

Workforce (1.5 million workers).

Availability of raw materials in the region.

Large opportunities to develop the sector and increase its competitiveness abilities through the cooperation between the four countries.
